Dr. Norman Goldstein selected for the Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP)
Dr. Norman Goldstein, Clinical Professor of Dermatology for the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai was just recently selected for the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award for 2019 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the profession.
While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only a few members are selected for the Lifetime Achievement Award. These special honorees are distinguished based on their longevity in their fields, their contributions they have made to society and the impact they had on their industries. Dr. Goldstein is being recognized for this distinction for having over 5 decades of professional experience as a seasoned and trusted Dermatologist & Professor. Dr. Goldstein has demonstrated success not only as a Dermatologist & Professor, but his groundbreaking research led to the development of the first sunscreen. Dr. Goldstein pioneered the use of photographic techniques for the early detection of skin cancers, introduced cryotherapy for the treatment of acne, and introduced use of the laser in the treatment of Kaposi’s sarcoma. Dr. Goldstein is regarded by his peers as one of the best dermatologists in the world and he has been very exciting to watch. Dr. Goldstein is also a leading practitioner for tattoo removal and has trained hundreds of physicians all over the globe.
A graduate of Columbia College (1955) and SUNY Downstate (1959), Dr. Goldstein completed his dermatology residency at the Skin and Cancer Hospital (Bellevue and NYU’s Postgraduate Medical Center). He achieved the rank of Captain before completing his military service in Hawaii and was invited to become Chief of Dermatology for the Honolulu Medical Group and Director of its Research and Education Foundation Laboratory. The President of IAOTP, Stephanie Cirami stated that “Choosing Dr. Goldstein for this award was an easy decision for our panel to make. He is brilliant, his list of accomplishments and accolades are beyond impressive, he is active in numerous organizations and affiliations, he was exactly what we were looking for. Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Goldstein has been active in his community and recognized worldwide for his outstanding leadership and commitment in the field of Dermatology. He has received many awards, accolades and has been featured in numerous publications multiple years in a row such as Marquis Who’s Who, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the East, and Who’s Who in the World. For 2019, Dr. Goldstein graced the front cover of TIP (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine and just recently selected for the Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). For 2018 he was selected as Top Professor of the Year in Dermatology by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). Dr. Goldstein became the first specialist in dermatology named a Laureate Fellow by the American College of Physicians, and in 2010 was named a “Leading Physician of the World” by the International Association of Dermatologists. In 1998 a Day was dedicated to him by the Office of the Governor for the State of Hawaii proclaimed “Dr. Norman Goldstein Day.
Aside from his successful career as a Dermatologist, Dr. Goldstein is also a sought after lecturer, speaker, published author of The Skin You Live In, and served as Editor of the Hawaii Medical Journal for more than a decade when named Editor Emeritus.
Looking back, Dr. Goldstein attributes his success to his experience, education, mentors he has had along the way and staying passionate in all his endeavors. Dr. Goldstein says he has been blessed, he loves doing what he is doing, and feels this is just the beginning. When he is not working Dr. Goldstein enjoys traveling and spending time with his family. For the future Dr. Goldstein hopes to continue to make a difference in people’s lives anyway that he can.
